Prabin Raj Shakya

I joined Dhulikhel Hospital as a Monitoring and Evaluation Officer since 2010. The hospital has got 14 outreach centres in different rural parts of Nepal, which runs not only curative but also public health and community development programmes. My prime responsibility was to implement medical and health records in these centres.

During my work, I developed and systematized paper based recording and reporting formats of these centres. I explored every possible ways of digitalizing the recording system. In due course, I got an opportunity to participate in DHIS2 workshop in India. After that, I was intensively involved in customizing open MRS and DHIS2, for which I coordinated with the School of Engineering of Kathmandu University.

I also got an opportunity to participate in meeting organized by Nepal Government to adopt appropriate system for national health information system and customization of DHIS2. This helped to deepen my understanding on informatics and to explore the ways for networking at national level.

I am sure that this course will infuse me with knowledge and skills required for developing an appropriate system and/or strengthening the existing system in my institution, which will ultimately help establishing the link with national system.
