Multiple development partners are coming together to support a conference on the topic IT4UHC to bringing this important topic to the attention of policy makers and health sector stakeholders working to achieve Universal Health Coverage. Speakers of this conference will highlight success stories on using technology for universal health care which could be emulated across the region.

Asia and the Pacific Perspective of the Post 2015 development agenda
Susann serves as departmental focal point for ADB’s collaboration with UNDP/UNESCAP on the MDGs and she assists in ADB’s overall support to the MDGs. She is also part of the regional working group on CRVS. In her role as social protection specialist, she analyzes and reports on social protection issues in Asia and the Pacific, including developments related to social assistance, and social insurance and coordinates with other development partners. She supports operational departments and DMCs in designing health and social protection programs. Susann is particularly interested in the cross section of ICT applications, health and social protection. She is currently developing innovative technical assistance projects which support m- and ehealth solutions.
Experience Prior to ADB: Susann worked for research institutes, NGOs (on gender, migration, education, human rights), and in government and private medical institutions in the Philippines, India, Germany and the USA including Duke University, Baylor College and University of Washington. She always tried to link her medical profession with a broader development perspective.
Susann, a German national, holds a Medical Doctor degree and a PhD from the University of Heidelberg in Germany and a Master of Public Health degree from the University of the Philippines. She is also board certified in emergency medicine, did a fellowship in dermatology and tropical medicine and post graduate courses in adult education, and in health system financing in developing countries.

The importance of IT for a country’s Social Health Insurance
Annie Chu is Health Economist for Health Care Financing at the WHO Western Pacific Regional Office. Her experience revolves in providing technical support to Member States in the Western Pacific Region on the monitoring and evaluation of progress towards universal health coverage, generation of evidence for policy-making, and application and implementation of costing tools to strengthen health systems.
